Physical properties]: Orange needle-like crystals (toluene), or earthy yellow crystalline powder. Melting point 223～224°, easy to sublimate. Soluble in acetaldehyde, benzene, hot ethanol, dilute ammonia, sodium carbonate and sodium hydroxide aqueous solution. Easily soluble in hot ethanol. It is yellow in ether and benzene, scarlet in ammonia and sulfuric acid.
Method】Aloe-emodin can be obtained from the crude product of low temperature dried aloe vera juice extracted with ethyl acetate, and then refined by silica gel column chromatography (petroleum ether-ethyl acetate).
